AEROSPACE & DEFENSE
PRECISION WITHOUT COMPROMISE
When the Surface Matters, So Does the Process
Aerospace and defense environments demand more from a cleaning process than simply removing contamination. Materials, coatings, tolerances, accessibility, downstream processes, and component integrity all matter.
Subzero Surface Solutions provides specialized surface cleaning, contamination control, and preparation for aerospace and defense applications where precision and preservation are critical.
Our approach begins with the asset, substrate, contamination, and desired outcome. Rather than forcing every problem through the same process, we evaluate each application individually and determine whether our capabilities are appropriate for the work.
Currently specializing in precision dry ice blasting, Subzero provides a controlled, non-abrasive cleaning option for applications where conventional solvents, water, manual cleaning, or abrasive media may be inefficient, undesirable, or introduce unnecessary secondary waste.
BUILT FOR DEMANDING ENVIRONMENTS
Aerospace assets often combine sensitive materials, complex geometries, protective coatings, close tolerances, and contamination that can be difficult to access using traditional cleaning methods.
Dry ice blasting uses compressed air to accelerate solid CO₂ particles toward the surface. The media sublimates upon impact, transitioning directly from solid to gas and leaving no spent blasting media behind.
This makes the process particularly valuable for qualifying applications requiring controlled contamination removal with minimal secondary cleanup.
Contamination Removal
Target grease, oil, hydraulic residue, carbon deposits, adhesives, process contamination, and other unwanted material from complex surfaces and assemblies.
Surface Preparation
Prepare qualifying surfaces for inspection, maintenance, restoration, coating, or subsequent processing while minimizing unnecessary impact to the underlying substrate.
Complex Geometries
Reach recesses, fasteners, structural features, mechanical assemblies, and difficult areas that can make conventional manual cleaning labor intensive.
Minimal Secondary Media
Dry ice sublimates during the process, leaving the removed contamination as the primary material requiring collection and disposal.
Preservation Focused
The objective is not simply to clean the surface. It is to remove what does not belong while protecting what does.
SUPPORTING THE MISSION BEHIND THE ASSET
Subzero is built to support organizations responsible for maintaining, manufacturing, restoring, and preserving high-value aerospace and defense assets.
Potential applications include aircraft and aerospace components, ground support equipment, mechanical assemblies, restoration projects, manufacturing equipment, tooling, maintenance environments, and other specialized assets where contamination interferes with inspection, maintenance, processing, or preservation.
Every application is different. Material compatibility, coatings, contamination type, access, surrounding systems, and the required surface condition are considered before work begins.
For unfamiliar or technically sensitive applications, testing can be performed on a representative area or sample before progressing to a larger scope.
A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO SURFACE RESTORATION
Subzero Surface Solutions is being built around a simple principle:
The surface determines the process.
Dry ice blasting is our primary surface treatment capability today, but our focus extends beyond any single technology. We approach surface cleaning and restoration as a technical problem involving the substrate, contamination, desired finish, and operational requirements.
As our capabilities expand, that philosophy remains unchanged.
The objective is to provide the right level of control for the asset in front of us.
MOBILE CAPABILITY. SPECIALIZED SUPPORT.
Subzero provides mobile dry ice blasting capability throughout Southern California, allowing specialized surface cleaning to be brought directly to aircraft, facilities, equipment, and qualifying projects.
We work with customers to understand the application before mobilization, including the material being treated, contamination present, desired outcome, accessibility, and any operational or environmental considerations.
For smaller components and specialty parts, qualifying projects may also be evaluated for off-site component restoration.
WHERE CONVENTIONAL METHODS FALL SHORT
Solvents, manual scrubbing, pressure washing, and abrasive blasting each have their place.
They are not always the right answer.
When conventional methods require excessive labor, introduce moisture, generate secondary media, struggle with complex geometry, or create unnecessary concern for the underlying surface, precision dry ice blasting can provide another option.
Subzero exists for those applications.
PRECISION. PRESERVATION. SOLUTIONS.
From aerospace maintenance and contamination control to restoration, surface preparation, and specialized component work, Subzero approaches each project with preservation at the forefront.
If your organization is facing a difficult surface cleaning or contamination challenge, we welcome the opportunity to evaluate the application.
